An Assessment Of Compassion International Leadership Development Program, Kenya

Abstract

This study was inquisitive about the new level of leadership development approaches for the 21st century. The model of holistic child development used in Compassion International seeks to raise Servant Leaders to transform the world and in this context Kenya. The LDP is reviewed and discussed in this study. The key practices of servant leadership as defined by Spears are outlined and modeled by global servant leaders from the entire globe. The LDP is based on the biblical principle of servant leadership as demonstrated by Jesus Christ. There are common biases and practices that do not support the elevation of Christians to leadership positions based on stereotyping opinions that Christians are too merciful and hence ineffective leaders. The world’s history and present context point to the need for Godly and committed individuals capable of becoming servant leaders and contributors to the enhancement of the good in society in all professional and ministerial fields. CI uses an intentional biblically based training curriculum that addresses servant leadership concepts, identifies and trains participants to contribute at all levels of society throughout their lifetime. Believers are selected because they have begun to demonstrate the character of a servant-leader but are in need of further training and empowering beyond what their particular environments can offer.
